We discussed the costs of judges, and what it would cost to bring in non-local judges. Pat Hendrickson stated that local judges run about $500 and non-local judges $1000-$1200, after you figure in their fee, transportation and motels.

So, in noting that bringing in a non-local judge would cost an extra $500, the 2012 Nationals would be in the vicinity (Colorado), and the low membership participation at meetings and helping with the show. A motion was made to skip the 2012 SWWDGA Show. 1st by Mike Korhonen & 2nd by Dorthy Wright. It was so approved by several Yes votes and a few Abstaining votes (neutrals).

CALENDARS:
Calendar ad income this year brought in $690, and club expenses to purchase the calendars was $232.24. For a profit of $457.76.
Jessica Howard asked the club, if with the increase of the Club’s calendar cost (from $5 to $7 per calendar), we wanted to continue publishing our Fundraiser Breeding/Kidding Calendar.
It was unanimously decided to keep publishing the calendar, with the following prices:
$20 for Month Business Card Spaces
$25 for Back Page Business Card Spaces
$10 for the club to sell the Calendars for
Jessica will be updating the Website soon with the new 2012/2013 Calendar info, but you can still purchase the 2011/2012 Calendar at the website.

PLANS FOR 2012 (While we take a break with the Show):
Ann Moelhman proposed we do some informational classes to help educate members and in hopes of bring in more active members into the club.
She was nominated to Informational Class Chairman and to put together a proposal of classes before the club at our next meeting in early December.
Discussed classes include:
- Judging - Class Room/Workshop
- AI - Class Room/Workshop

REGIONAL SHOW:
Mike Korhonen asked the club’s approval to present a letter to the NWODGA Club to request a room during the lunch hour at the February Conference to discuss with interested parties, the SWWDGA Club getting together with other local Goat Clubs and forming a Regional Show in a central location.
Which could increase the numbers of people to help put on the show, and bring in more rings and a multi day goat show.
He also considered doing a ‘Chili Feed’, during the gathering at the Conference.
His motion was approved, and he will be getting a letter off shortly.

GOLDEN GURNSEYS:
Discussion was started by Mike Korhonen regarding the proposed ADGA Survey regarding adding Golden Gurnseys, as a breed, into the ADGA herd books.
After much discussion, it was agreed on by the members present, that the SWWDGA Club would support this action.

NEXT MEETING:
No actual date was decided upon, but it will be sometime in Early December.
Elections & Membership Dues are on the agenda.

SHOW:
Lots of discussion of possible dates without conflicting with already established shows, and what types of rings to have. This is what we came up with as possible and Pat Hendrickson would check with the Fairgrounds to see which dates were available:

Sat, May 21st -- 3 ring Sr Doe show
Sat, July 9th -- 3 rings of Sr Does & 3 rings of Jr Does (but not sanction all Jr Doe breeds)

**************
AMENDMENT TO THE ABOVE SHOW DATE INFO!!!
July 9th & June 25th (a 3rd date that was confirmed after the meeting, that didn‘t conflict with a show) are taken for other events at the Fairgrounds that require the entire fairgrounds or the barn area. The only weekend that was available was May 21st. So Pat Hendrickson has reserved that day for our show and we will be doing a 3 ring Sr Doe show!
Now to find 3 Judges available for that date!
**************

We are thinking about doing a ‘Featured Breed’ (or two), but not sanctioned.

CALENDARS:
They were briefly mentioned, but not actually voted on, as to whether we would continue this year.

Probably more discussed, decided & opportunity to sign up at the next meeting.

February 5th (a Saturday) @ 11AM at Mike Korhonens (EARLIER time for this meeting ONLY)

Mike will be doing a fecal demonstration at our Feb meeting, so bring a fecal sample(s) with you!!

Submitted by the Secretary, Jessica Howard

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:
Mike & Evelyn Korhonen, Pat Hendrickson, Jessica Howard, Mary Chilton, Davis, Kathleen & Tiffany Hylkema, Lisa Beaver, Lara Jones (new member, WELCOME!), and Dorthy Wright

Financial report submitted by Pat Hendrickson, Treasurer:
$3,255.05 savings, $861.38 checking, $35.38 in petty cash, and $4,151.81 total.
$60 paid for liability insurance.
No outstanding bills.

Website:
Lisa Beaver thanked Jessica Howard for her work on the website and stated that it was very easy to navigate and find!

2010 Show:
Karen Senn took another judging assignment, so is no longer one of our judges this year. We were able to get Lynn Harrington to fill the 3rd Judging position and Sue Barker as our 4th Judge.
We also have a LaMancha & Nigerian Dwarf Specialties.
So for Judges we have:
    SATURDAY:
RING #1 - Tom Considine (DistVII Nigerian Dwarf Specialty)
        RING #2 - Chuck Pedersen
(Tom & Chuck will also be doing the Youth Showmanship Sat AM)
RING #3 - Lynn Harrington (Saturday Buck Show, only)
    SUNDAY:
RING #3 - Lynn Harrington (DistVII LaMancha Specialty)
        RING #4 - Sue Barker
LaMancha Club also has two Showmanship Awards (new this year) that we will be giving out.
The food concession stand at the fairgrounds will be open as there is another event happening that weekend.
Precision Sharpening Service will be at the show again this year, so bring your dull blades!
If you plan on staying over at the fairgrounds Sunday night (July 4th), do be aware that there will be fireworks in the Grandstands! So, make sure your goats are secure, if they are spooky around fireworks.
It was proposed that we keep the per goat fees the same as last year.
$6/goat or $8/goat for late fees
It was also proposed to offer the 3rd Jr Doe registered, in the same ring, would be free.
All fee proposals were unanimously approved.
It was also brought up that we should have a few members willing to bring cameras and help get pictures of the winners and Specialty classes. Pat thought Lisa Eruhow-Hagan might be able to help and Mike Korhonen also offered to help. We would also try and set up a special spot, with back-drop, for taking pictures.
Pat Hendrickson said that she had the straw we would need for the show that she was able to get for $4/bale. She also has also has the shavings for the show at $5/bale.

Raffle:
Lisa Beaver reminded members to be thinking of things to donate to the club raffle. Also maybe things that could be put together in baskets for a larger raffle item. She also mentioned that if members came across wicker baskets, that those made great containers for making up gift baskets for the raffle. You can bring raffle donations to the next meeting or to the show.
Drawing for the raffle will happen on Sunday morning after the Sr Doe show.

Show Awards:
Pat Hendrickson said she would be contacting the people from the last meeting that had mentioned donating items for the show awards.
Our show historically offers show award for all the CH & RCH winners. When we tallied up this year’s breeds and rings we came up with 169 awards for CH, RCH and BIS.
4 rings of Sr Does, with 8 breeds in each ring, so 8 CH & RCH awards are needed for each of the 4 rings.
4 rings of Jr Does, with 8 breeds in each ring, so 8 CH & RCH awards are needed for each of the 4 rings.
3 rings of Bucks, with 5 breeds in each ring, so 5 GCH & RGCH awards are needed for each of the 3 rings.
And then we have the Best in Show Awards (11 total):
4 Sr Doe rings
4 Jr Doe rings
3 Buck rings

So, with the sheer number of awards needed for this large of a show we looking for members that might be willing to donate sets of 8 (all the CH or RCH awards in one ring for Sr or Jr does) or a set of 5 for one of the buck rings.
Possible awards could be: Brushes, leads, buckets, collars, soap, mugs, teas/powdered drinks, etc…
We are also looking for larger donations for one of the Best in Show awards (as these don‘t need to be all the same, and it would be noted on the award, as to who the donator was).
Please contact Pat Hendrickson or Jessica Howard with your ideas, if you are willing to donate, so we know when we have a ring covered!

It was decided at the meeting to do Breeding Calendars for Sue Barker’s ring of Sr Does, CH & RCH (16 total), at a cost to the club of $4 each.

Calendars:
Jessica Howard updated members that there are 3 month card spaces (now only 2) and 10 back page spaces still available for this year‘s calendar. Members have until May 31st to buy last minutes business card spaces! We were able to sell 5 of the first printing calendars at the NWODGA Conference in Feb.
Business Card sales have already brought in $491.50, 5 calendars sold $40, and then the expense to the club for the 5 sold calendars and the 26 complimentary calendars is $168.02. We still need to pay for the ones we print to sell at the show. So, we are in good shape with the calendars!

NEXT MEETING:
Sunday, June 6th 1PM at Mike Korhonens

Member Brags:

Lisa Beaver - was over run by buck kids this kidding season! (3 or 5 does to 20 something bucks?, not sure how this was a ‘brag‘ LOL!)

Davis Hylkema - daughter Tiffany just finished her first year at WSU with straight A’s!! Also his oldest daughter will be getting married in Aug!

Pat Hendrickson - had her first Saanen doe kid year in a long time!! Milk sales are also up to the point that she’ll need to pay taxes this year. ;-) She’s milking 14-16 does.

Mary Chilton - had a 2nd freshening Nubian finish her lactation at almost 3000#!! Her high day was 13.1#! She has a 1st freshener this year who’s only 2 weeks fresh and is already milking almost 9# a day!

Mike Korhonen - Granddaughter will be turning 2yrs old next month!

Dec 6, 2009

Submitted by the 2010 Secretary, Jessica Howard

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE:
Mike Korhonen, Pat Hendrickson, Jessica Howard, Mary Chilton, Ann Moelhman, Dawn Lantz, and Justin & Caprice Kramer

Financial report submitted by Pat Hendrickson, Treasurer:
There was $237.20 that she didn’t know was in the club’s PayPal account, so we only lost $38.35 on this year’s show instead of the $275.55 that was reported at our November meeting!

2010 Show:
Chehalis Fair Grounds is reserved for the July 3-4, 2010 show.
Adding Sunday will only cost us $125 extra. Fairground costs this year was $960.
There is a possible addition in cost to bedding removal with adding the extra day, but Pat Hendrickson didn’t think it would be too much.
It was also noted that there would be fireworks at the Fairgrounds on Sunday night after dark, but it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone showing unless they stay overnight on Sunday, as we should be done showing long before they start.
It was put up to a vote, after making sure we had enough help lined up, as to wether to have a Saturday/Sunday show or just keep it a Saturday show. There were 7 votes for yes and one abstaining vote. So we are officially putting on a TWO day show during the 4th of July weekend in 2010.
We will be doing Youth Showmanship, 2 rings of Sr Does, 2 rings of Jr Does and 3 rings of Bucks on Saturday. Sunday we will do 2 rings of Sr Does & 2 rings of Jr does.
Possible buck sanctions would be: Nubian, Nigerian Dwarf, Toggenburg, AOP & possibly LaMancha.
Saturday Judges are Thomas Considine & Chuck Pedersen. Karen Senn will be doing one of the Saturday buck rings and a Sr/Jr doe ring on Sunday. We still need a judge for the second Sr/Jr doe ring on Sunday.
We decided to have Pat Hendrickson contact Chris Strickland, Cathy Pindell & Mark Baden (in that order) for the 4th judging position.

Show Awards:
Pat Hendrickson said she’d had 3 offers from members to do show awards for 2010.
Sonia Thyssen - lead ropes
Stangelands - something with embroidery
Mark Baden - a best in show award (IF we do one this year.)

Calendars:
Jessica Howard announced that the calendars would be cheaper this year since our show is now in July she could take off one of the months and reduce the club’s cost of the calendars by $1! The calendars would run from July - June, instead of June - June, as in the previous 5 years we have been doing our fundraiser calendar.
Jessica Howard also needed a confirmation of the cost we were going to offer Kiperts Korner Feed & Wiggins, if they wanted to market our fundraiser calendars.
It was discussed and decided that we would do an introductory price of $6 per calendar (they would need to pay upfront) the first year. This price would also cover the shipping costs to them. We would then negotiate a price for following year(s), if they were interested in continuing to carry them.
The business would also get a free card space listing on the calendar.
There was a motion by Mary Chilton and a second by Dawn Lantz to make the calendar price $7 and keep it at that price for following years, but that motion was voted down.

Website:
Jessica Howard announced that the club’s new website was up and running!
http://SWWDGA.org
Memberships and Calendar spaces can be purchased online. When the show info is finalized you will be able to get Show info there, too, and even do online paid entries.
It was discussed that we should add the Meeting Minutes & Show Financial Reports to the website, and was approved by vote.

Other Business:
It was brought up that the Club used to have a brochure that could be handed out to interested parties and Mike Korhonen said he would contact the person who did it before to see if she still had the info, so that we could get one put together again.
It was also brought up by Caprice Kramer, that she would like to see more Education/Goat Care topics brought up at the meetings, or gatherings for the public to expose people to basic goat care.
Mike Korhonen offered to do a Fecal testing class at some point at one of the future meetings.

Elections:
President: Mike Korhonen (same as 2009)
Vice President: Lisa Beaver (same as 2009)
Treasurer: Pat Hendrickson (same as 2009)
Secretary: Jessica Howard (new appointment)
We had one outgoing Director (Freda Curelas) this year, Ann Moelhman was elected to fill that 3yr slot.
